About

Born in the flatlands of the Pianura Padana in the 1980s, I started my academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the University of Pavia, followed by a Master’s in Theoretical Physics at the same institution (with an Erasmus semester in Paris during 2006/07).

Despite my formal physics training, I’ve always been drawn to the biological world. My undergraduate report delved into computational methods for protein folding, while my Master’s thesis explored Kauffman gene regulatory networks.

After that, I swapped the foggy plains for the gray skies of Aberdeen, where I completed my PhD in theoretical biophysics. My work focused on extending the Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (TASEP) to study mRNA translation. I was fortunate to be mentored by a trio of wonderful supervisors: M. Carmen Romano, Ian Stansfield, and Rosalind J. Allen.

Since then, my research has revolved around bridging the gap between experimental data and models inspired by statistical mechanics.

In 2013, I moved to the warmer Montpellier with a Long-Term EMBO Fellowship, and since 2014, I’ve been an associate professor at the University of Montpellier. In 2022, I became a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France.

I’m currently based at the Multiscael Biophysical Modelling team, Centre de Biologie Structurale (CBS).
